Here’s what a typical day in my life would look
like:
Jump
starting Life
My day begins at 6 a.m. and I habitually mediate
for 30 minutes. Meditation for me has proved to be very beneficial as
it helps me keep focused at work during the day. I started this
practice last year and it has definitely reaped several benefits in my
personal and professional life.
I always drive into work which is 30 minutes away.
I prefer to head out early to avoid the rush hour and arrive at work by
8:00 a.m. Mornings are always spent checking email, VM, reading the
Wall Street Journal, watching the news and getting geared for the
Market to open. Three out of five mornings involve conference
calls/meetings with our economists and analysts to discuss the latest
report on the economy and the market.
I spend time reviewing my clients’ portfolios and
make it a point to update them personally about their accounts and the
market news. For me picking up the phone and having a conversation with
my local and out of state clients or even meeting my local clients
during the course of the day stands high on my priority list as
compared to sending a bi-weekly email giving them updates.
My first and foremost function is to help increase
and protect my clients’ wealth and I believe a large part of my success
depends on my ability to educate my clients’ about risks and various
possible scenarios so that they don’t harbor unrealistic expectations.
Afternoons are mostly spent tying up loose ends or
preparing for an early evening or dinner meeting with current or
potential clients. I’m a people person and enjoy meeting people and
learning about the different wakes of life that they come from. I
believe knowing more about my clients’ thinking on various matters
helps me establish financial goals for them.
I always take a break at 5 p.m. and tend to go to
the gym at least 3-4 times a week. Working out always makes me feel
more positive and helps unleash stress that may have built up during
the day and this in turn keeps me going at work for another couple of
hours.
My life isn’t the typical 9-5 experience nor is it
the crazy rush to get a presentation out the door after 5 p.m. I would
say it’s something in between and at the end of the day which could
vary from being 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. I love coming home to my wife and
knowing I’ve just spent another day working in the best interest of my
clients’ to help increase and protect their assets so they can sleep
better at night.
